Experience the natural beauty and vibrant culture of the Mekong Delta as you explore the local floating market at its most lively and exciting time of day. Enjoy the serene atmosphere and tranquility of the wetland forest, stay with local families for an authentic homestay experience, and cruise up the Tonle Sap River through the Vinh Xuong border.

Itinerary

1. Ho Chi Minh City – My Tho – Ben Tre – Can Tho

Depart from Ho Chi Minh City and enjoy a scenic drive along the National Highway, bordered by seasonal green rice fields. Upon reaching My Tho, visit Vinh Trang Pagoda, take a relaxing boat ride along the river to see stilt houses, fruit plantations, and fishing villages along the riverbank. Continue to Tortoise Islet for lunch in an orchard garden. Then, take a boat to An Khanh, a less touristy spot in Ben Tre, and enjoy a hand-rowed sampan ride under the shade of water coconut trees along natural canals. Savor seasonal fruit and honey tea while listening to “Southern Vietnamese folk music” performed by locals. Visit a family business that represents the idyllic rural lifestyle, taste coconut candy, and observe the pastoral life as you wander through fruit plantations and villages. Proceed to Can Tho and spend the night at a hotel (family homestay with dinner can be arranged on request). You’ll have free time to explore the bustling Can Tho market.

Option 1: Hotel Stay in Can Tho

Check into your hotel upon arrival in Can Tho. In the evening, you are free to explore the city on your own. Spend the night at your selected hotel in Can Tho.

Option 2: Homestay (D)

Transfer by motorboat to a small village in Cai Rang district and check into your riverside cottage. In the afternoon, go cycling or trekking around the village to experience the rural lifestyle of the Mekong Delta people. Prepare your own dinner and enjoy it with your local host. The evening offers a traditional folk music experience with your neighbors. Spend the night in your riverside cottage.

2. Can Tho  – Cai Rang Floating Market – Chau Doc – Tra Su Sanctuary

Take a very early morning boat trip (5:30 am is usually recommended) to visit the Cai Rang floating market, the busiest wholesale market for fruits and vegetables at this time of day. Continue cruising through the small channel system and visit a rice noodle-making village. Experience the “Monkey Bridge” in the Delta. Head towards Phong Dien for a smaller, quieter floating market (optional for private tours). Break for lunch, then proceed to Chau Doc. Continue the tour with a visit to Tra Su and explore the wild bird sanctuary, cruising smoothly in small boats through splendid canal systems deep into the forest to watch storks, cranes, and other tropical birds. On the way back, stop by Sam Mountain to visit the Cave Pagoda (if time permits).

Return to town and check into your hotel. Spend the night in Chau Doc.

3. Chau Doc – Phnom Penh

Have breakfast at your hotel, then at 7:00 am, you will be picked up and transferred to a speedboat station for the final part of your journey to Phnom Penh. Arrive at Sisowath tourist dock in Phnom Penh around 2:00 pm. End of services, concluding your trip!
