Hue served as the capital of Vietnam for nearly 150 years during the reign of the Nguyen Dynasty, the country’s last royal dynasty.
The city is home to a complex of structures that showcase the power of the Nguyen Dynasty, alongside its stunning landscapes that have endured for centuries. This includes the Hue Citadel, the tombs of Nguyen kings, various pagodas, Thanh Toan Bridge, Vong Canh Hill, and traditional garden houses, all of which have been meticulously preserved.
Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this collection of monuments draws numerous tourists each year, captivated by its rich history, culture, and architecture. Unlike other bustling tourist destinations, Hue offers a quieter, more serene atmosphere, with romantic scenery that has inspired countless poems and songs. 1. Hai Van Pass
Hai Van Pass is renowned as one of Vietnam’s most picturesque mountain roads, offering stunning views of lush greenery set against the backdrop of the blue sea. At the summit, you can find remnants of ancient fortifications.

The American and French bunkers along Hai Van Pass offer expansive views of the city without requiring a challenging climb. At the peak, a small rest area serves as a stopover for the journey from Hue to Hoi An, where visitors can enjoy local refreshments and coffee.
2. Lang Co Bay
Located just 60 km from Hue, the tranquil fishing village of Lang Co is a highlight of the tour. In 2009, Lang Co Beach was named one of the 30 most beautiful bays in the world, celebrated for its gently sloping sea, fine, clean sand, and gentle waves.

Visitors can savor local seafood at restaurants situated on walkways extending over the water. Additionally, various water sports are available for you to enjoy.
3. Lap An Lagoon
From a distance, the village resembles a ribbon of silk winding between Phu Gia Pass to the north and Hai Van Pass to the south. The lush greenery, crystal-clear waters, and the sight of clouds draping over the mountains add to the village’s charm and allure.
Visitors can observe fishing boats on the lagoon, offering a glimpse into the local fishermen’s daily life and an authentic experience. A visit to Lap An Lagoon provides a relaxing escape, where the tranquility of the area and the enjoyment of fresh oysters are truly delightful.
After exploring Lang Co Beach and Lap An Lagoon, you’ll arrive in Hue, where you can discover the grandeur of the Hue Imperial City, the Tomb of Khai Dinh, and Thien Mu Pagoda.
4. Khai Dinh Tomb
Our final recommendation is the Tomb of Khai Dinh, situated atop Chau E Mountain, about 10 km from Hue. Unlike traditional tomb architecture, Khai Dinh’s tomb was constructed using modern materials like steel and reinforced concrete, influenced by Western styles.

To reach the tomb, you must climb 127 steps bordered by dragon railings. At the top, you’ll find the epitaph house and numerous statues of mandarins, horses, and soldiers in the courtyard. The tomb’s surroundings are designed with feng shui principles, creating a stunning and impressive natural landscape.
Unlike other tombs that emphasize a natural ambiance, Khai Dinh’s tomb reflects a fascination with Western modernity. Its architecture blends European and Asian styles, merging classic and contemporary elements to leave a lasting impression.
5. Hue Citadel
The Hue Citadel is one of the most renowned attractions in Hue and has been recognized as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site.

The citadel complex is divided into three main sections: The first is the Citadel itself, constructed between 1805 and 1832. Despite the ravages of time and war, it still retains nearly 140 buildings of various sizes.
Originally built for defensive purposes, the second section is the Imperial City. This key area, developed during the reign of King Minh Mang from 1804 to 1833, features over 100 structures, including royal palaces and temples used for worship and ceremonies. The third section is the Purple Forbidden City, built early in 1803 under King Gia Long. This area was designated for the use of the King and the royal family. The Citadel stands as a prominent symbol of Hue and is a must-visit for anyone traveling to the city.
6. Thien Mu Pagoda
The second stop on the Hue city tour is Thien Mu Pagoda.

Legend has it that Lord Nguyen Hoang had a dream about a woman who foretold that he would build a pagoda to bring prosperity to the country. Believing in her vision, Lord Nguyen Hoang commissioned the construction of the pagoda, naming it Thien Mu, which translates to ‘Heavenly Lady.’
Perched on Ha Khe Hill, 5 km from the city, Thien Mu Pagoda is one of the oldest and most captivating pagodas, symbolizing Hue City. Its most prominent feature is the Phuoc Duyen Tower, which stands 27 meters tall with seven tiers. Adjacent to the tower is the Dai Hong Chung bell, weighing 2,052 kg, and a tortoise with an inscribed steel plate.
The pagoda also houses the car of Thich Quang Duc, the monk who self-immolated to protest against the regime’s violations and fight for religious freedom. Despite its popularity and the influx of tourists, Thien Mu Pagoda continues to offer a sense of tranquility and inner peace.
After an extensive tour of the stunning Hue City, where you’ll explore renowned landmarks and delve into the city’s rich history and culture, you’ll be driven back to Hoi An/Da Nang. Our drivers will drop you off at your hotel, concluding the tour.
