Itinerary
Katherine Gorge Deluxe Tour Itinerary
The journey begins in Darwin, traveling south along the Stuart Highway, tracing the path of explorer John McDouall Stuart. Before reaching Nitmiluk National Park, we’ll make a stop at the Adelaide River War Cemetery, a site honoring the 423 casualties of the Japanese air raids on Darwin during World War II.
Upon entering the park, your guide will share the long-standing history of the Jawoyn people, the traditional custodians of the land, as you explore ancient rock art that dates back thousands of years. During the dry season, you can take a refreshing swim in the natural pool at the base of Leliyn (Edith Falls), so remember to bring your swimwear!
After enjoying lunch amidst the park’s stunning scenery, we’ll visit the Nitmiluk Visitor Centre, which features a captivating collection of Aboriginal artifacts. Then, board a two-hour cruise along the Katherine River, where you’ll glide past resting crocodiles and diverse birdlife, with the towering cliffs of Katherine Gorge rising 70 meters above the water—truly a spectacular sight at any time of the year.
With the day’s exploration complete, we’ll return to Darwin, traveling along the scenic Stuart Highway once more.
