The Great Barrier Reef is home to countless stunning islands, and Fitzroy Island is one of its gems. This national park is blanketed in lush tropical rainforest that stretches down to the coastline, right on the edge of the reef. Just a 55-minute boat ride from Cairns, Fitzroy Island offers the perfect escape for a day of adventure and natural beauty.
With its idyllic beaches, the island provides the ideal setting to sink your toes into the sand and soak in the breathtaking views of the reef. There are also unspoiled forests waiting to be explored, as well as plenty of activities like snorkeling, hiking, and swimming in the clear waters.
The day begins with a journey aboard a comfortable, air-conditioned catamaran, offering scenic views as we head to Fitzroy Island. You’ll have up to 6 hours to enjoy the island’s beauty and diverse experiences, including snorkeling the nearby fringing reef, taking a self-guided rainforest walk, or trying one of the many available activities.
Options include self-guided bushwalks, renting a kayak or stand-up paddleboard, or booking a guided snorkeling tour. For a more immersive experience, you can upgrade to add a glass-bottom boat tour with snorkel gear hire. Whether you prefer exploring the underwater world or relaxing on the sandy shores, the choice is yours. In the afternoon, the journey back to Cairns will take you on a scenic route through the Great Barrier Reef.
