An optional Angkor Sunrise experience is available for those who wish to witness the breathtaking sunrise over the temples of Angkor Wat.

Breakfast will be at the hotel. This morning, we’ll explore Angkor Thom, the last and most enduring capital of the Khmer Empire. Our visit includes the South Gate of Angkor Thom, the Bayon Temple with its 54 towers adorned with serene and mysterious Buddha faces, the Royal Enclosure, Phimeanakas, the Terrace of the Elephants, and the Terrace of the Leper King.

Next, we’ll visit the jungle-covered temple of Ta Prohm, made famous by Angelina Jolie’s movie Tomb Raider. Here, massive fig trees and gigantic creepers intertwine with the stone foundations, creating the impression of nature reclaiming man’s creation.

In the afternoon, we’ll continue our exploration of Angkor Wat, the world’s largest religious monument and an iconic symbol of the Great Khmer Empire. The temple’s five towers represent the sacred peaks of Mount Meru. We’ll stroll through this vast complex, admiring its galleries, columns, libraries, pavilions, courtyards, and reflecting ponds that mirror the towering structure.

After breakfast at the hotel, we’ll head out of town to visit Kulen Mountain, the birthplace and early capital of the Khmer Empire in the 9th century. Here, we’ll explore numerous ancient temples and take a short trek through the original jungle to Kbal Spean, also known as the River of 1,000 Lingas. This site features intricate stone carvings in the riverbed and banks, depicting Hindu mythological motifs. If you’d like, take a refreshing swim beneath the cascading waterfall.

On our way back, we’ll stop at Banteay Srei, a stunning temple renowned for its intricate and detailed bas-reliefs carved into pink sandstone, leaving no space undecorated. DAY 4: Tonle Sap Lake – The Rolous group

After breakfast, we’ll drive to the remote areas of Siem Reap, away from the usual crowds, to explore the enchanting Tonle Sap Lake, Cambodia’s “Great Lake” and one of Asia’s largest. Here, we’ll embark on a boat cruise through the flooded forest to discover the lake’s natural beauty and visit Kompong Khleang, the largest floating village on Tonle Sap. This visit will offer a glimpse into the traditional water-based lifestyle of the locals and highlight the lake’s significance to the Cambodian people.

During the dry season, you’ll be amazed by the sight of stilts supporting wooden and bamboo houses rising up to 10 meters in the air. In the wet season, when the lake expands significantly, the village transforms into a picturesque floating community.

On our return, we’ll explore the Roluos Group, which was once the seat of Hariharalaya, the first capital of the Khmer Empire from the mid-9th century. The temples here, built from materials like bricks, laterite, and sandstone, include notable sites such as Bakong – an impressive stepped pyramid temple with intricate carvings on its false doors and lintels; Lolei – a former island temple with exquisite carvings and inscriptions representing Mount Meru surrounded by the ocean in Hindu mythology; and Preah Ko – a Sacred Bull temple built to honor the King’s ancestors.
